At The Park School, we are committed to preparing all our learners for adulthood by developing the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to move on to further education, training, employment and independent living. Our careers programme is designed to be inclusive and tailored to meet the needs of all our students.

Our intent is to:

  • To provide students with functional careers knowledge and understanding that will enable them to be better prepared for college, future employment and everyday life.

  • To provide students with the confidence to make appropriate education choices and employment choices. 

  • To equip students with the skills needed to work towards independent living and working. 

 

Careers Programme Summary

Our careers programme provides:

  • Access to impartial careers advice and guidance.
  • A structured learning journey from Year 7 to Year 11.
  • Opportunities for pupils to experience the world of work through classroom activities, local visits, work experience and employer encounters.
  • Strong partnerships with local colleges, training providers and support organisations.
  • Support for parents and carers to help guide their child’s next steps.

We measure the success of our careers programme by:

  • Tracking student destinations after leaving The Park School.
  • Gathering feedback from pupils, parents, teachers and colleges.
  • Reviewing work experience outcomes and employer engagement.
  • Termly evaluation of the programme against Gatsby Benchmarks.

 

 

Careers Content by Year Group

All subject areas link future careers possibilities and life skills through their academic curriculums providing students with careers content across the curriculum.  

  • Year 7: Life Skills Lessons, introduction to jobs and careers, exploring personal strengths and interests, money management, post 16 afternoon.

  • Year 8: Life Skills Lessons, exploring different jobs and work terminology, money management, post 16 afternoon.

  • Year 9: Local labor market, exploring local jobs, developing essential work skills, option choices guidance, workplace expectations; dressing for work; job interest, post 16 afternoon

  • Year 10: CV writing, interview preparation, career advisor interviews, careers fair visit, developing essential work skills. 

  • Year 11: College transition program, preparation for adulthood course, developing essential work skills, support with college or school applications, work experience placements, transition planning, post 16 placement visit, independent advice and guidance.

Parents’ Support

Parents and carers play a key role in supporting their child’s career journey. We provide:

  • Post 16 Information afternoon in year 9 and 10 for parents.

  • Support and guidance with applications and decision making.

  • Effective signposting. 

  • A dedicated annual review session in  year 10 focussing on post 16 transition. 

  • Career advisor meeting about each student’s career aspirations and future education pathways.
