History
Subject Intent
At The Park School, we believe that the study of History is fundamental in shaping thoughtful, informed, and active citizens within a global community. Through engaging and rigorous historical enquiry, our students develop a deep understanding of the events, cultures, and decisions that have shaped the modern world, empowering them to make meaningful contributions to society.
Our History curriculum is designed to:
-
Foster an understanding of change and continuity, helping students make sense of the present and envision a more positive future.
-
Equip students with the skills to critically analyse, evaluate, and interpret both past and present events, enabling them to engage with current issues thoughtfully.
-
Encourage students to assess the origin, context, and purpose of information, building strong critical thinking and informed decision-making abilities.
-
Promote an appreciation for cultural diversity and its significance in shaping inclusive and connected communities.
-
Inspire a passion for lifelong learning, curiosity, and historical enquiry that enriches students’ perspective of the world around them.
-
Develop essential organisational and communication skills that support success in education, employment, and daily life.
By embedding these key skills and values, our History curriculum prepares students to navigate the complexities of the modern world with insight, empathy, and confidence, ensuring they leave school ready to contribute meaningfully to an ever-changing global society.

How we assess in History
Content will be assessed through an assessment at the end of each term, this is made in house covering all of our core History skills. History skills will be assessed during activities in the lesson where they will have a chance to independently put skills into practice.
Those who choose History in Year 10, will sit the OCR Entry Level History Exam. Students will then achieve Entry 1, Entry 2 or Entry 3.
